Cosplaying is a hobby that allows you to dress up as your favorite character from TV, comic books, movies, or other forms of media. It?s more than just dressing up like someone else; it?s about being another person for the day. There are many things you need in order to be prepared to cosplay but don?t worry, I am going to outline the basics here and give some additional resources for those who want more information on specific areas.

Step One: Choose a Character

Decide on the character you want to cosplay. Do your research and learn about them, their story or history will help you choose what costume to make. Be certain that this is who you want to be as well just because when wearing a mask it?s hard not to just be yourself.

Step Two: Pick a Style

Decide on the style or time period you want to go for and then research what clothes would be appropriate. If your character is from ancient China, don?t wear pants with a T-shirt; if they are Victorian England, make sure that their clothing reflects this as much as possible.

Step Three: Acquire Clothing

The next step is to go and find or create the appropriate clothing for your character. This can be a long process depending on what you are looking for but it?s worth doing properly! If you want to cosplay as Cinderella, don't wear just any fancy dress. You need to find a dress that looks like it belongs with the character.

Step Four: Find Accessories

The next step is to get all of your accessories, including hair and makeup for the cosplay! Again this can be difficult because you want everything to go together but when considering how much time you have, what kind of person you are creating, and what kind of day you?ve had.

Step Five: Practice!

Practice, practice, practice! If you are going to be walking around the convention or other event for hours on end then it is essential that you have rehearsed your movements and gestures in advance so that they don't look unnatural when done out in public and you want to make sure the cosplay is your own.

Step Six: Take Pictures

Take pictures of the cosplay so that you can look back at them later and see how well you did! Remember to take candid photos as well, with friends or by yourself since this will help you remember what happened during the event. You may also want to create a photo album on your computer with the pictures as well.

Step Seven: Be Creative

Don't be afraid to explore things that you don't know about! Cosplay is a great way for people of all different interests to come together and bond over their love of art, creativity, or passion in general. It's not always about being the most accurate or perfect, but doing what you love and having fun with it.

Step Eight: Take It Slow

Don't try to tackle too much at once! When beginning cosplay, start small by making a change in your own clothes like adding some fake blood for example. From there, work your way up so it's easy but don't overdo it and get frustrated.

Over time you will become really good at cosplay. Remember to have fun and not to take things too seriously. However, if you're someone who takes cosplay very seriously, like a career even, then I would take it one step at a time and start with small things.
